CLEARFIL™ Universal Bond Quick 2 utilizes Advanced Rapid Bond Technology, a combination of three key monomers: MDP, a hydrophilic amide, and a new urethane tetramethacrylate monomer (UTM). Together, they create a bond layer that is not only thin and uniform but also strong and durable, with no waiting time required after application.
“When you make something thinner, it tends to get weaker,” noted Dr. Weerasinghe. “But with the introduction of UTM, we were able to enhance strength while reducing film thickness—essentially achieving the best of both worlds.”
While previous formulations required refrigeration—complicating storage and handling—the newly re-engineered formulation allows for room temperature storage. The result: the same high-quality performance, plus enhanced convenience and flexibility.

With a film thickness of just 3–5μm, this adhesive is ideal for both anterior and posterior restorations. A thinner bond layer means fewer issues with pooling, marginal discoloration, or aesthetic compromise—especially important for cosmetic procedures.
“Thicker adhesives can show in anterior margins and possible to cause discoloration or may cause marginal leakage,” said Dr. Weerasinghe.
From a material science perspective, the formulation was carefully engineered to avoid common pitfalls. While some single-bottle systems are prone to phase separation or require shaking before use, this adhesive maintains consistency from the first drop to the last—even when stored at room temperature.

“In indirect cementation cases, you actually don’t need to light cure bond before cementation,” explained Dr. Weerasinghe. “That can save time and prevent issues with indirect restorations not seating properly.”
When light curing is required, such as with certain core materials, the adhesive maintains strong bond integrity under stress, ensuring reliable performance.
The adhesive also includes user-friendly design features that streamline application. A flip-top cap enables one-handed dispensing, which is especially helpful in operatories without assistants. The formulation’s low viscosity makes it easy to apply evenly, minimizing the risk of pooling and improving precision. “Those features make it much more intuitive to use,” noted Dr. Weerasinghe. “You’re not struggling with excess material or awkward angles—it just flows and performs the way it should.”
