New York-based healthcare investment firm OrbiMed has invested a total of $85 million in Swiss company vVARDIS, known for its drill-free treatment for early tooth decay, the companies said in a recent statement.

OrbiMed announced the closing of a $50 million funding round, adding to an initial $35 million investment made in February 2025.

“After our initial investment, we’ve seen firsthand the momentum vVARDIS is building in the dental market with its Curodont™ products,” said Matthew Rizzo, general partner at OrbiMed. He added that Curodont is “gaining real traction.”

Offered in 10% of U.S. dental clinics

Drs. Haley and Goly Abivardi, founders and co-CEOs of vVARDIS, said Curodont is now offered in nearly 10 per cent of U.S. dental offices.

Additionally, more than one million teeth have been treated with Curodont in the United States since January 2024, and over 400,000 patients have received treatment so far this year, according to their press release.

“That’s why we’re excited to deepen our commitment and expand our investment to support vVARDIS in its next phase of growth,” Rizzo said.

FDA-approved since 2019

Curodont received CE marking approval for use in the European Union and Switzerland in 2012. It entered various international markets starting in 2016 and received U.S. Food and Drug Administration clearance in 2019, allowing its commercial availability in the United States.

Young Innovations, manufacturer and distributor of dental supplies and equipment, based in Algonquin, Illinois., began distributing Curodont Repair Fluoride Plus in 2021.

In September 2024, Henry Schein announced it is now the exclusive distributor in the U.S. for Curodont Repair Fluoride Plus, a non-invasive preventive treatment for early-stage cavities.
